My approach to drawing is simple. In any object, there are basic shapes hiding within. Just use your imagination and power of observation to unleash and discover these basic shapes. A TRIANGLE in a nose? A CIRCLE on an apple? A SQUARE hiding within a car? It's fun to see if you can find the shapes within! Try it!

2.

Now compare the size of the shapes as you see them appear. Judge the "scale" (Do or should they match?). Is the triangle twice as big as the square? Is the circle half as large as the triangle? Compare the space in between the shapes the same way. Use one of the shapes you already placed to help judge. It's a bit like a match game..see what matches, and what doesn't.

3.

IT'S LIKE BUILDING A HOUSE-Once you have discovered all the hidden shapes, and compared the sizes of your shapes, use them as the building blocks of your drawing. Now connect the shapes by tracing around them and connecting them together with a continuous line. Use smooth natural lines to join the shapes together. Then simply erase all the lines left over that you no longer need. Pay close  attention and compare your drawing to your subject. You can do it! Try it on the Baby Cub tutorial below.
